Typically, a 5.0 to 6.0 mil DFT will provide excellent protection. If hide is not a factor, primer thickness can often be increased with corresponding decrease in the topcoat (thus saving money). Deep, bright red, yellow or blue colours can be achieved by using Starpoxy ™ High Build Primer which is available in bright red, yellow or deep blue. A single topcoat at 1.0 to 1.5 mils DFT is commonly sufficient if primer is increased accordingly.
